About The Walk
We start by visiting the very picturesque St Cyrs on the stroudwater canal. We can go up the 14th century tower and inspect the peal of six bells. We then take quiet roads and paths towards St Swithuns Church in Leonard Stanley. Anne Boleyn passed this way during her last summer in 1535 during her progress with Henry 8th. The church building dates from the 12th century. Remains of the priory buildings and the earlier Saxon church stand to south and west. We then take gentle paths towards St George's Church in Kings Stanley. People have occupied this site for several thousand years and worshipped Christianity for more than 800 years. After this we turn for home.
- No dogs please.
- This circular walk is mainly over fields with few roads.
